Recovery boards – also known as traction aids – are sturdy boards with a grippy tread. You place them in front of your wheels when your vehicle is stuck in sand, mud or snow: the tyres find grip on them again and you pull away gently. Campnetic recovery boards measure approx. 100 × 30 cm and have a load capacity of up to 10 tonnes on level ground. With the magnetic holder, they sit on the outside of your van – without drilling and always within reach.

The recovery board set is complete: 2 Campnetic recovery boards with 4 magnetic holders. When you need them, you take the boards off together with the holder. The universal holder is for recovery boards you already have – MaxTrax and TRED Pro fit too. You assemble it once to suit your boards and your vehicle. It stays on your van and you only take the boards off. If your van has curves or swage lines, the universal holder is the better choice because you can position the magnets more flexibly.

Securing and using them properly as a load is the responsibility of the vehicle keeper and the driver. In terms of function, it's similar to magnetic roof racks for skis or snowboards, which also count as a load. Make sure the boards are mounted securely so they can't slip or fall off. Yes, the recovery boards stay in place while driving, even off-road. Each of the 4 rubber-coated magnets has a holding force of up to 56 kg. What matters is that all magnets sit flush on a flat steel panel and the surfaces are clean. Under § 22 StVO, the boards count as a load – so check before you set off that everything is firmly in place. We also offer our security cable: it protects against theft and is an extra safeguard in an emergency.

Yes, we have tested the sandboards and the universal mount on numerous off-road trips and they hold up.

The recovery board set weighs approx. 6.5 kg including the holder; a single board weighs approx. 2.75 kg. It's held by 4 magnets with a holding force of up to 56 kg each. The universal holder on its own weighs approx. 1.4 kg, the mount for MaxTrax approx. 1.65 kg.

Campnetic recovery boards have a load capacity of up to 10 tonnes when they lie on level ground. At 300 mm wide, they give the tyre a wide contact surface. The material is deliberately a little flexible so nothing breaks. That's why the boards aren't meant to be used as levelling ramps for long periods: under hours of load – especially in warm weather – they can deform. This doesn't happen during the short use for getting unstuck.

1. Prepare: Straighten the wheels as much as possible and clear sand and obstacles in front of the tyres. Lower the tyre pressure if needed – restore the prescribed pressure before driving on public roads again.
2. Place: Place the board textured side up right in front of the tyre and push it slightly under the tyre – in the direction you want to drive.
3. Pull away: Pull away gently and keep the steering as straight as possible. If the tyres find no grip, stop immediately, clear the sand and reposition the board.
4. No full throttle: Spinning wheels generate extreme heat, which can make the teeth of the recovery boards melt or tear off. Recovery boards damaged by spinning wheels are excluded from warranty and returns.
5. Afterwards: Collect the boards, remove sand and dirt and check them for damage.

Yes, we offer a specially designed lock for the Campnetic Sandboards with a magnetic holder that provides additional protection against theft. The lock ensures that the sandboards stay firmly in place and cannot be easily removed.

We would also like to stress that we have already driven over 50,000 km with the sandboards and the magnetic mount, often in urban areas where our bus was parked. During this time, the sandboards have never been stolen - probably because many people do not know that they are magnetic. The strong magnetic force of the mount ensures that it stays securely in place, and the magnetic attachment is often not recognized as such by thieves.

The mount is specifically designed for sandboards, but in principle, it can also be used for other flat, magnetic equipment, provided it has the right dimensions and a magnetic support surface. For example, the mount also works for wheel chocks.

Installing and removing the sandboards is quick and easy. You can securely attach or remove the sandboards from your vehicle in just a few seconds.

Yes, the Campnetic Sandboards with magnetic mount will stick to vehicles with a wrap. The rubberized surface of the magnets protects the wrap from scratches. However, with particularly thick wraps, the magnets may slightly indent the wrap. To achieve the best possible adhesion, the contact surface should be clean and free of dirt, and we recommend ensuring the wrap adheres well. If the wrap is loose or particularly thick, this may slightly impair the magnets' adhesion, and the wrap may flatten slightly in that area.

The magnets on the Campnetic Sandboards are coated with a special rubber layer to protect your vehicle's paintwork and prevent scratches. However, it is important to make sure that both the magnets and the surface on the vehicle are clean before you attach the sandboards. Dirt or dirt between the magnets and the paintwork could prevent the magnet from adhering properly and could cause scratches. So make sure to clean the surfaces well before installation.

The magnetic force is strongest perpendicular to the contact surface—directly toward the vehicle body. This direction is crucial for holding the sandboards securely, even during travel or in the event of shocks. To remove the boards, however, the force is applied in a different direction: If you bend them sideways or downwards, you no longer apply the maximum holding force along the field lines, but rather tangentially—which, from a physical perspective, creates a significantly lower counterforce. This allows the boards to be released with targeted force, even if the grip is extremely strong in the 'normal' state.
